Rev War 29th Regiment of Foot Button

Finally made it out today to my favorite farm field on Long Island, NY since the snow has mostly melted and the ground is nicely saturated. Found this really nice 29th Regiment of Foot button identified in Don Troiani's book as B29.d. Some of this regiment was involved with the Boston massacre. Besides that awesomeness, also found a 1/8 cut 1830 Large Cent, an 1837 Large Cent, a toasted copper, an 1870's Indian Head, and some other fancy buttons. Great day to be out and even better day finding anything Rev War.Click image for larger version.

They cut a large cent into 1/8ths? 1/8 of a cent? Shows how much buying power a cent had back then. Gary

Been trying to research the cut large cent. Doesn't seem like there's too much information out there on this practice for US minted coins. I get it when the Spanish Reals were cut because they still retained their fractional value of silver but seems odd someone would have done this to a copper cent. The location I found this also produced a 1/4 cut large cent a couple months ago.

That button is pretty special. Congratulations on a bunch of great recoveries. I'm with Jeff- the LC is in great shape. Would love to see a pic after you clean it up a little.

Did not clean up very well. Dirt was holding most of it together.

Great hunt, liking the buttons. An 1/8 would have the buying equivalent to 3-4 cents in today's money.
